Elise had a surname – she was known as Elise Abet and her partner was Aidan who wrote the supporting piece. The piece was written in the key of Tea. It was alleged that her cup size was T but this was never proven because although played with two hands, she became so excited that the piece morphed into Ravel’s Bolero and became one of the most popular pieces ever.
Was definitely in the ‘rolling the eyes’ category. But listened with as much an open mind as possible, peacefully imagined enjoying a cup of tea while this was played. Liked the non-dramatic performance, which lent to a calm listening experience.
Thanks for listening, Ms Mani, and the feedback is much appreciated!
It is still one of the most beautiful pieces of music. My little boy plays a simpler version at a beginner music concert in 2 weeks and we both enjoyed listening to this podcast.
Thanks, Mamata. And do wish your boy the very best from me for his concert!
I remember Mrs. Gnanamuthu telling me the back story to this piece during one of my piano lessons with her. I miss her and I miss hearing you play, Preetam. So, thank you for this.
